Week 10 - Moved in and Moving forward

Can you believe that it's been almost 10 weeks since my last post - My goodness busy, stressed, fighting, the works, if it's happened to Nick and I, it's all happened in the last 10 weeks.
So the house?
Yes we now have a beautiful semi finished home away from home.
Master Bathroom: Done. Turning 2 bedrooms into 3 bedrooms: Done. Knocking walls down and filling in doorways: Done. So what's next?
Well now the real fun and stress begins! We invite the architect and builder back and we take off the gorgeous 1960's extension (probably full of all things nasty - see picture below). Which means applying to council, getting planning approval and actually approving plans from the Architect. Within this 'new build' we will have a; new kitchen, living, dining room, laundry and family bathroom. Phew wee - Yes we still have a long way to go but we'll get there for sure because the end product (hopefully) will be well worth the wait, stress, money and time. I cant wait!

Oh yeah our new outdoor light!

Building - Week 3

Another week down and our little humble abode is no longer looking that little - This week the boys have been at it again; water proofing, plastering, battening the works!
Monday the fire place came out of bedroom 3, which revealed a gorgeous old fireplace/ oven door thing, anyway luckily I saw it as it would have been bricked in again, probably for another 150 years or so. The next question is, where to put it now... well I might hang it within the 'new build' as a little sculpture or something?! so now the Fire place is gone and Bedroom 3 has a wall too, so the hall way is now complete, all we need now are; the skirting boards and door jams, then we can start painting - I'm getting very excited :) And finally the master ensuite has been water proofed (one coat) therefore another day of water proofing then... let the tiling begin!!! YAY cant wait to see the beautiful charcoal and white tiles Nick and I have chosen.

Week 2 - Building

One week down and many more to come at Lords Place.
Last week the boys got so much done, with no problems we were beginning to think this building gig was easy... until yesterday, Monday morning the beginning of Week 2 of building, Nick and I discovered that we had ordered a couple of items incorrectly, therefore bathroom might be delayed by a week.. or two!

So it turns out the mirror was a wee bit small, both being giants, we have to get a custom made mirror to sit behind to vanity and stretch all the way to the ceiling. And our shower screen (glass panel) is far to big. We ordered a 1000mm, received a 1200mm, which means the walk in access into our new shower would be about ummm.. 400mm - I mean Nick and I are svelte but not that svelte, so I'm now in the process of trying to find a new glass panel to fit this space, again we might have to get one custom made ($$) Yippee! The joys of renovating just gets better.

On a happier note the wall to make the 3rd bedroom went up today, finally we can start seeing and visualising what the "old/ original" part of the house will look like. Chip rockers' will be there until the end of the week and then... let the tiling begin!

Building - Week 1

Well over another couple of days our builders have smashed through more work within our little humble abode. Today is a rest day and a blessing really, because our bathroom "stuff" (vanity, toilet, shower, mirror etc.) were very delayed... Alas they should be arriving today ready for installation and tiling tomorrow!! Yippee cant wait to see our ensuite take shape.

Building begins - Week 1

It's been a little while since our last post however, we have finally begun work on the house - The builders are in and smashing the s**t out of it!! They started on Monday and since then they have cleaned out the bathroom, knocked the doorway through at the end of hall way and opened the hall way at the top, making it much larger and open. Plus they have started chipping away at the exposed brick wall, to ensure the wall has a natural finish without looking like there was a door there... what next?!
Well I'm sure they did a lot of work today, so stay tuned... more photos to come!!

Wider/ higher hallway

Master ensuite - Much bigger than we thought!

In between Stages - Inspiration/ Design

After a day of demolition, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to hopefully redesign our ensuite. As I said earlier we need to establish our colour palate - well from much research and mini paint tubs, Nick and I have decided on the following:

White, Grey and Yellow

So there we have it - The white for the walls will be Whisper White, the white for the skirting boards is Vivid white, our grey will be Malay Grey and the yellow.... well I'm still deciding on that one so watch this blog!

Stage 1 continues

Before I venture into the colour palate and design side of the house, we must continue the demolition. Today Nick took too what is too be our ensuite and boy O boy did he make a mess...!

See... didn't he have some fun! A real stress release.... Nick tried to keep the existing tiles as we were going to recycle, however, he discovered that the top 'new' tiles were stuck not onto the wall underneath, but the older/ original tiles!!! I couldn't believe this - what tiler just tiles upon other tiles... lazy. So cutting to the chase, we must look for brand new tiles for the floor and walls .. Woo Hoo! let the fun begin.
